Tony’s shortlist

Fat Tony’s AI picks

1

3. Lovelock

Fat Tony says the leader just pinched one over this trip and gets the right soft conditions again—catch him if you can.

2

1. Another Won't Hurt

Forgive the Riccarton flops, punters; his prior heavy-track 2100-2200m wins have plenty of class for this lot.

3

2. Koyama

Third-up, home-track specialist and drawn to save every inch—Tony expects the old bloke to improve sharply.

4

7. Strong

Rail draw, light weight and a likely firmer Soft7 give this fellow a proper chance to grind into the money.

5

4. Allthekingshorses

A roughie with 54 kilos; unproven on grass but the young mare has enough upside to sneak into the five.

Race preview

ANOTHER WON'T HURT (1) is a North Island trained gelding who has remained in the South Island after a couple of disappointing efforts over the recent GN Carnival at Riccarton. He as in good form before those efforts, and gets a chance to bounce back in a far easier assignment this time. LOVELOCK (3) was ridden more positively early on to take an uncontested lead over this trip at Oamaru last start, and kept up a strong gallop to score very easily by over 2 lengths. This is not much tougher, and similar tactics will make him hard to peg back again. STRONG (7) has been a touch disappointing recently, and maybe a track that is slightly firmer will suit him. He is good enough on his day to figure in the top 3. KOYAMA (2) will be peaking third up from a spell, and he saves his best for this track. A form reversal is on the cards. LADY'S SECRET (6) does not help herself by missing the kick, and if she can sort that part of her race out, then she is worth including in all top 4 combos.
