Tony’s shortlist

Fat Tony’s AI picks

1

3. Rudyard

Two hard-fought seconds at this mile, handles the bog and gets 56kg—this drought looks ready to cop the concrete shoes.

2

4. Solidify

Big late second last start, well weighted and Cartwright is riding hot—serious Heavy9 player, capisce?

3

1. Joshua Brown

Three heavy-track wins and blinkers go on; forgive the last mess, but 60kg makes him earn it.

4

5. Overrated

Natural leader with the soft draw, loves the heavy and gets a featherweight—can pinch a cheque at nice odds.

5

6. Principled

Two heavy wins and only 54kg; moody customer, but if he wakes up he can barge into the finish.

Race preview

JOSHUA BROWN (1) finished out of the money in the Opunake Cup when getting detached from the body of the field early on. Expect him to be ridden more positively early on this time, and a form reversal is on the cards. Each way value. SOLIDIFY (4) ran his best race in some time when finishing second at Ruakaka last time out just over a fortnight ago, and with 6.5kg less to carry, he can go one better. PRINCIPLED (6) has been in the market at his last couple of starts but has only battled, including his last start when running sixth at New Plymouth. If he is in the right mood, he can win this. KHAN HUNTER (2) is the best of the rest, but is likely to need the run.
