Tony’s shortlist
Fat Tony’s AI picks
4. Taika
Fat Tony says class hurdler, loves the bog and debuting over fences in a very winnable mob.
5. The Republican
Honest as they come; nearly pinched it last jumps run and Wiles is flying.
2. Mont Ventoux
Old campaigner handles Heavy9, maps on speed and has proper course-steeple form.
6. Dorothy's Daughter
Lightweight tough mare; fit, jumps soundly and can grind into the money.
7. Rocem
A roughie for Fat Tony's exotics—keeps plugging for minor cheques in this grade.

Race context
Race preview
TAIKA (4) only battled in the GN Hurdle at Riccarton when finishing fourth there just over 3 weeks ago, and he makes his steeplechase debut at a far easier level. On top for us. MONT VENTOUX (2) finished third on the flat at New Plymouth 15 days ago, and he has made a good attempt at steeplechasing, including a third place finish here at is penultimate start. Stick with him. DOROTHY'S DAUGHTER (6) is a tough mare who has raced her way into full fitness. She never gives up, and is capable of taking this out at value. THE REPUBLICAN (5) looked all over the winner until being run down late over steeples at Woodville last start, and he will again produce his usual honest effort in this. ROCEM (8) has been holding her own in similar fields to this, and she has top 4 claims again.
